Job Description

A leading organisation that is pivotal to the UK’s defence capabilities require a Radio Systems Engineer, based in Berkshire, to provide radio communications support to Corporate Radio Systems ensuring the availability of equipments and networks and to provide technical support and advice to internal and external customers.

Key accountabilities
· To perform day-to-day radio communications maintenance tasks
· To provide and maintain radio communications networks and equipment ensuring a viable capability to agreed standards and timescales
· To plan, co-ordinate and install / maintain radio equipment in vehicles and facilities as required
· Provide technical advice and support to users and project teams on all aspects of radio communications equipment
· Provide support during training sessions, exercises, field deployments and real incidents as required
· Assist in the implementation of strategies for all of the organisations radio systems equipment
· Assist in the co-ordination of existing and future Radio Communication systems in support of the business requirements of the Company
· Assist in the day-to-day running of the 3rd party maintenance contract

Responsibilities
· Supervise contractors supporting radio communications maintenance activities, and to ensure they work in accordance with Company safety management system
· To assist with the formulation and revision of training packages on the use of radio communications equipment for new and existing radio users, ensuring that staff are made aware of safety and security aspects relating to the use of radio equipment on Company sites
· To liaise with the EMC team with regards to matters of radio frequency hazards and safety
· To liaise with the SCIDA team and IT accreditation team as required
· To create Safe Systems of Work
· To assume the role of an accredited Work Supervisory Officer
· To assume the role of Nominated Person Electrical (Specialist)
· Ensure the understanding and application of responsibilities with regard to the Company’s Environment, Health, Safety, Security and Quality Standards

Person Specification

Knowledge

· Broad-based understanding of telecommunication principles and practice

· Working knowledge of the installation of radio equipment

· Working knowledge of Company Quality System

· Working knowledge of Health, Safety and Environment requirements and Safety Manuals

Skills

· Possess good inter-personal and presentational skills using a range of formats and techniques

· Possess a medium level of documentation skill and experience in the production of presentations and reports

· Self motivated and able to work on own initiative

· Computer literate

Qualifications & Experience

Qualifications

· An ONC or the equivalent recognised qualification in a relevant subject or the equivalent experience is preferred

Experience

· Experience in radio engineering installations and maintenance activities

· Possess a background or genuine interest in radio communications systems

Special Requirements

· The post holder shall adopt a flexible approach to working hours and may be required to work on call duties on a regular basis

· Where appropriate, the job holder may be required to undertake additional training in the role of a radio engineer possibly leading to a recognised qualification

· It would be desirable that the post holder have a valid driving licence

Salary Package

Salary: c. £25,000 dependent on experience
